Upcoming 2-day workshop

Come join us for a fabulous 2 day workshop for intensive jewelry making workshop

Students will learn and make a silver ring, bracelet, earrings and pendant. Student will learn how to set a stone with bezels.

Class is $200--included tools and equipment. Students will need to bring their own ounce of silver and stones to beused in jewelry. Silver and stones will be available to purchase at class, if needed.
You can pay for the class in person at the store or on our website at www.localartisancollective.com/calendar then click on jewelry.

We will need a minimum of 4 students for the class. Max size: 6 students.

Class is taught by Rene Venegas, a 16th generation master silversmith. He was taught as a youth by his father and later took specialized classes. In addition to classes taught at The Local Artisan Collective, he teaches jewelry making and metal smithing at Weber State University.

Lake City, Colorado

Happy Trails!!

This past week, we spent our vacation in Lake City, Colorado.  It is a quaint little silver mining town -- turned touristy town.  The caravan consisted of 2 grandparents, 3 siblings, 1 spouse, 1 fiance and 3 kids all packed in 2 minivans.

One of the days we were there, we sold our jewelry at craft festival.  We had a great day meeting so many wonderful people.  It was fabulous having family around to help with Miss M, bring us lunch and chating off and on during the day.

Why Lake City?  Well, let me tell you:  my great-grandfather and mother moved to Lake City when he got a job as a supervisor at one of the silver mines outside of town.  He died in 1920, leaving my great-grandmother behind with several kids.  She stayed to raise her family there.  My grandfather left Lake City to go to college and ended up moving to Utah for his job.  He always went back to his beloved Lake City.  He was also a  part time prospector with his brother-in-law, especially after retirement.  They always were trying to find that mystic mother lode. I feel bad that my silver-smithing husband never met my silver-mining grandfather.  They would have had hours and hours of discussions and fun in the workshop.

Spring 2013 Exhibition

This past winter, Rene taught a jewelry class at Weber State University.  Below is a quick slide show of the jewelry exhibition held at the end of the class.

There was a booking conflict of events, so the class was bumped to down the hallway. But that's ok, we still had a great time.

We haven't posted much on here lately, but we certainly have been busy.  Here is an update of some projects.



*** Due to student's requests, our jewelry classes will be held on Tues and Thurs evenings.  Saturday mornings are available upon request.  Looks like this schedule will be it until the end of the year.


*** Rene has teamed up with Ogden City School District in Northern Utah.  He will be teaching a  FREE jewelry class.  The class will start July 30th and will run M-TH for two weeks from 10am -- 11:15ish. This is for teenagers and adults.  Let us know if you are interested or call 801-737-7790 to sign up. Space is limited to 10, so sign up fast!

Because of this, our jewelry making class schedule will be different in January.  And then in February, it will change slightly. Summer fun......

Well, another summer has ended and fall is coming soon.  I do like the cooler evenings and crisp mornings.  I am about finished with canning and Rene is busy with more plans for his jewelry classes and the pieces he wants to make.

We had a fabulous summer at the local markets, though we ended up not doing much with Clearfield and Kaysville Farmer's Markets.  We were just tired!

Next Saturday we will be at the Harvest Moon Festival down on Historic 25th Street in Ogden, Utah.  Among other things, it will be the last of the Farmer's Markets for Ogden.

Our October event was canceled by the planners.

So now, we are getting ready for the holiday events. We should be back at Hill Air Force Officer's Spouses Bazaar in November.  And we would like to do one or two holiday events. I will wait until the plans are finalized before posting what we will do. (But if you know of any Christmas/winter/holiday festivals, please let us know.)
