Where To Find Us This Winter

We are enjoying the break from outdoor summer boutiques, but know the break will not be for long.  We have shows lined up for the late fall and early winter.  We do hope you can stop by and see out booth as well as the other vendors at these events.

Local's Winter Boutique on November 21st from 10 to 5 at 2736 Pierce (1700 East), Ogden, Utah

• This is one of our favorites!  Several of our  favorite vendor friends will converge at the this house to sell a beautiful variety of LOCAL  jewelry in every style and size, toys, beautiful pottery, homemade sopas and lotions, upcycled gifts, variety of clothing for all ages, knitted and crocheted treasures, gorgeous photography, homemade holiday cookes and goodies.   What a great way to get your holiday shopping done and maybe, just maybe, find something for yourself as well. 
• With us will be Our Children's Earth, An Array of Artistry, Simply Eden Goat Milk Soap and Lotion, Moonlighting Mermaid, Sweet Pea Pottery, Emery Inspires, Infused Designs, 709 Photography and Design, Black Bird and 23rd, LindyMac Treasures and Laughing Dog Design Unlimited.

Ogden Nature Center's The Nest Holiday Open House, December 5th from 9am to 4pm at the Ogden Nature Center, 966 West 12th St, Ogden, Utah

• Jenny will be here for your holiday shopping, artisan crafts, FREE gift wrapping, a bake sale and kids' crafts.  There will also be fresh holiday swags and centerpieces. The trails will be open and one can warm up with complimentary hot chocolate.

Working Artists Holiday Faire, December 5^th from 10am to 3pm at the Eden Center 2612 North Highway 162 (next to the Valley Market), Eden, Utah.

• René will be here working on jewelry peices while selling our hand crafted fine jewelry.  This is a great chance to see him in action. There will be live music in the cabin, Athena from Simply Eden something from her line of goat milk goods, and Carrie at Into Fruition will be working on her children’ clothing that day.  Perks Bakery will be actively decorating holiday cookies and will have hot spiced cider and other goodies for shoppers.  The whole Eden Center will be a hub of creativity that day!

New Tradition

This was sent to me via email by a good friend.  I am not sure who the orginal author is, but I loved its message.  I thought it goes along well with my Buying Local post a few days ago.

 
"As the holidays approach, the giant foreign factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of produced goods -- merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Oh.... Yes there is!

"It is time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box, wrapped in foreign produced wrapping paper?

"Everyone gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

"Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

"Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

"Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamins on a foreign-made flat-screen TV? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

"There are a gazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint. Remember, folks this isn't about big national chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

"How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy/gal?

"Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning crew for a day.

"My computer could use a tune-up, and I know I can find some young person who is struggling to get his/her repair business up and running.

"OK, you were looking for something more personal. Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make jewelry, and pottery and beautiful wooden boxes.

"Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip. And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.

"Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

"You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that foreigners can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about us, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we could not imagine."

Summer fun......

Well, another summer has ended and fall is coming soon.  I do like the cooler evenings and crisp mornings.  I am about finished with canning and Rene is busy with more plans for his jewelry classes and the pieces he wants to make.

We had a fabulous summer at the local markets, though we ended up not doing much with Clearfield and Kaysville Farmer's Markets.  We were just tired!

Next Saturday we will be at the Harvest Moon Festival down on Historic 25th Street in Ogden, Utah.  Among other things, it will be the last of the Farmer's Markets for Ogden.

Our October event was canceled by the planners.

So now, we are getting ready for the holiday events. We should be back at Hill Air Force Officer's Spouses Bazaar in November.  And we would like to do one or two holiday events. I will wait until the plans are finalized before posting what we will do. (But if you know of any Christmas/winter/holiday festivals, please let us know.)

Remember: we now offer jewelry making classes Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are also able to give demonstrations and one day classes to schools, "girl's night out," church groups, scouts, etc. Please contact us for more information.

Holiday Musings and Sales

It's the holiday season! Thanksgiving will here is a few days, Hanukkah in about a week, the Posada will welcome Christmas in a few weeks, and the New Year will be celebrated in just six weeks. It is hard to believe, yet very exciting, that the festivities are about to begin. I love this time of year. I love the traditions, movies, the music---even the weather!

We have a fireplace in the kitchen and though I am not a morning person, I do love to get up a little early (once in a while) during the winter to start a fire and sip something hot. I love to look over our yard covered in a white blanket and sit in the silence of the early morning to contemplate life and its magnificent mysteries.
