Starting in January 2014, our jewelry ~ silversmithing class schedule will change.

Weber State Classes:
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, classes will be taught at Weber State as Art 2350.

Our Workshop Classes:
On Monday and Wednesday evenings, classes will be taught in our workshop.
Tuesday mornings, a class will also be taught in our workshop
Saturday mornings will also be available by appointment.

We are excited to post that in addition to our Tuesday and Thursday night silversmithing ~ jewelry making classes, we have classes available Tuesday morning as well. Art Festivals

It is that time of year when we are snug inside by the fire.  And yet, for the artist, it is time to look at the upcoming summer calendar. Time to apply. Time to rebuild an inventory.

Jewelry Making Classes

We are excited to announce our jewelry making classes for the winter.  We have two options.  

The first is at our workshop. Classes are held Tuesdays (6pm -- 9pm) and Saturdays by appointment (9am -- 12 pm).   

Students will learn how to make earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets and anything else you want out of silver, gold and precious stones. 

All skill levels are invited to class and the first's night class is always FREE!

WSU jewelry classes

We are happy to announce that Rene will be teaching another metal smithing and jewelry making class at Weber State University Spring Semester.

Classes will start January 7th, 2013.

Jewelry Making Classes

We have some options for those of you interested in jewerly making classes--and wouldn't it be great to hand craft fine jewelry for your loved ones for the holidays??

** Rene will be teaching Small Metals/Jewlery Making (Art 2350) at Weber State University winter semester. Classes will be Mon and Wed evenings from 5pm -- 7:45pm

** Until the first of the year, Rene will be teaching jewelry making classes at our workshop Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm -- 9pm and  Saturdays by appointment
    

** After the new year, classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays with a possibility for  Saturdays.

All skill levels are invited any of his classes.

NOTE: We are also able to give demonstrations and one day classes to schools, "girl's night out," church groups, scouts, etc. We are happy to travel to Northern Utah areas. Other areas can be arranged as needed. Please don't hesitate to ask.

Summer fun......

Well, another summer has ended and fall is coming soon.  I do like the cooler evenings and crisp mornings.  I am about finished with canning and Rene is busy with more plans for his jewelry classes and the pieces he wants to make.

We had a fabulous summer at the local markets, though we ended up not doing much with Clearfield and Kaysville Farmer's Markets.  We were just tired!

Next Saturday we will be at the Harvest Moon Festival down on Historic 25th Street in Ogden, Utah.  Among other things, it will be the last of the Farmer's Markets for Ogden.

Our October event was canceled by the planners.

So now, we are getting ready for the holiday events. We should be back at Hill Air Force Officer's Spouses Bazaar in November.  And we would like to do one or two holiday events. I will wait until the plans are finalized before posting what we will do. (But if you know of any Christmas/winter/holiday festivals, please let us know.)

Avenue's Street Fair

Yesterday, we were vendors at Salt Lake City's Avenue's Street Fair.  For those of you who are not familiar with SLC's neighborhoods: The Avenues are located NE of downtown, but not quite to the campus of University of Utah.  When Salt Lake was first settled in the mid-1800's, this area was the first areas that was not divided in 10 acre blocks (like the rest of SLC was). The yards are smaller here because the city didn't pipe in water until the early 1900s.  The beautiful homes fell into disaray and urban decay. By the 1960's it was one of the least desirable areas of town.  Slowly, the city and neighborhood groups started to restore the old homes and converted the homes that were split up into mulit-units back to single family houses. It is now one of the trendy, expensive, and most saught out neighborhood in the city. There are beautiful tree lined streets that offer shade to the large grand homes.

We have never sold at this market and was a little nervous as we were assigned a spot along a side street, not along the main street of the fair.  But, it turned into a fabulous day!  Even before we were completely set up, we had business. 

Several customers were interested in Rene's jewelry making classes. I do hope they are able to come and join us.

At about 4:30 a storm rolled in.

We were hoping the storm would roll over, as it so often does in Utah.  But instead, it poured hard, sending everyone to a nearby canopy.  The booth next took us packed up and went home.  The booth on the other side was selling custom greeting cards and did not have a canopy.   Several customers helped tuck everything under plastic and we gave them our 2-person umbrella.

Luckely, the rain only lasted about 20-30 minutes and then the sun came out and life was good until close.  We will definately add this to our calendar for next year.

Of a fun bonus---One of our daughter's friends moved to this area a few months ago. We were not sure of the exact address until they showed up to our booth and the two girls were excited like no other. Our daughter then got to play with her friend for the rest of the afternoon.

We are excited to announce that we are expanding our jewelry making/silversmithing classes.  We now offer classes Tuesday evenings in addition to our Monday and Thursday evenings from 6pm -- 9pm (other times and days are available by appointment).      

Classes are held at the Galleon's Gold Workshop on 12th St. in Ogden, Utah.

Students learn how to make earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets and anything else you want out of silver, gold and precious stones.

All skill levels are invited to class.

You are welcome to come as little as once a month or as much as 3x a week --- whatever your schedule dictates.

another one of my favorites....

This favorite website is full of beautiful, vibrant glass beads made by Trudi, one of Rene's jewelry students. Trudi has been making glass beads for quite a while, but wanted to learn some silversmithing skills to add to her jewelry repertoire.

She works with her brother and together they have sold their wares at markets and all over the world through their online shops. It is always fun to see what she will work on next in the workshop during class.  And I appreciate that she is always gracious to let me pick her brain for ideas about selling our jewelry.
